Job Purpose
Essex County Council are recruiting for a Senior Practitioner to be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive and effective integrated social work service in accordance with current legislation, Council policy and best practice. The post holder will operate at the level of an experienced professional in assessment, case planning and review functions of service users.
They will be undertaking initial assessments taking cases to initial child protection conference, undertaking s47 investigations, working with multi agency professionals including the police.
Role Profile Number
To hold a recognised Social Work qualification.
Knowledge of the key legislation central to the implementation of a professional social work service.
Knowledge of the functions of a Social Services Department and related agencies.
Knowledge of methods to assess performance and the achievement of targets in social work practice. Knowledge of linking staff training and development to service planning and priorities.
Knowledge and understanding of the current issues in social work practice
To have three years experience of utilising a range of social work skills at post-qualifying level with a local authority or other recognised equivalent agency.
Experience of holding a caseload which has included court work where issues are complex or in dispute.
Experience of preparing reports and presenting these in a formal setting.
Experience of financial management in a social work setting.
Experience of generating and appalling management information.
Experience of determining priorities in the implementation of a social work service.
Experience of applying the principles of equal opportunities in social work practice.
Good IT Skills
Good report writing and communication skills
Additional Requirements
Evidence of ability to work as a senior member of a team acting as a role model for other staff and providing support
Evidence of ability to deputise for the Team manager as required
Full Driving Licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes
To work out of hours when the need arises
